If you’ve been struggling with your mental wellbeing lately, this may be the post for you 🤍
Transparently I’ve been going through so much lately. A period of shedding and letting go. Shedding old ideas of how things used to be. Shedding of the self I thought I wanted to be. Shedding of holding onto things that were never meant for me and learning to make peace with it all. And with that, comes so much mental and emotional stress. So as a holistic healer I wanted to share a few ways I help support myself these days during periods of intense stress and emotional fatigue and I hope they may help anyone who can relate to this.
🥕Anxiety & Stress-relieving nourishment: I’ve been incorporating lots of hormone balancing foods like root veggies (parsnips, beets, jicima ect.) fresh salmon for its ability to turn off inflammation from the omega 3’s, eggs for the b vitamins that support lowering anxiety, lots of golden milk lattes (which contain turmeric to help support the nervous system during stressful periods) and even adding in some brain fog reducing foods like 70% + dark chocolate for the magnesium, zinc, iron, and flavanoids
🧘🏻♀️Light activity: When the body is already under immense stress, one of the first things I do is tone down the intensity of exercise (mainly nixing HIIT workouts altogether as they can add to your already elevated cortisol levels). Looking to things like yoga, walks in nature, moderate weight lifting or pilates really feel extra supportive for my body when I am mentally and physically drained.
🌞Sticking to a morning routine: Having something to look forward to as soon as I make it out of bed has been vital for me. Making my morning cup of tea, writing my morning pages, stretching, and doing a little meditation/ breathwork really helps set the energy for the day
😴 Sleep schedule: Going to bed around the same time every night that ensures I am getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night is also crucial if not the most crucial thing during periods of stress. Sleep helps our bodies cleanse and regulates our systems. Without enough of it, that’s when hormones can start getting thrown off, along with many other processes in the body, encouraging homeostatic imbalance.
🫂Therapy: Starting therapy during the pandemic was one of the best forms of self-care I could possibly invest in. Setting my ego aside and asking for guidance and help was so incredibly beneficial during this period of collective global trauma.
